Hawks Drop First America East Game of the Season to Bearcats

VESTAL, N.Y. –Hartford women's hoops had its nine-game winning streak snapped, falling to Binghamton 73-63, Wednesday night in America East action. 
 
Senior Lindsey Abed scored a team-high 13 points, as the Hawks fall to 14-8 on the year and 7-1 in conference play. Junior Carly Boland finished with a game-high 19 points, as the Bearcats improve to 9-12 overall and 4-4 in the America East.

Hartford got off to a hot start in the first quarter, jumping out to a 6-2 lead after a jumper by Abed with 7:21 remaining in the opening period. Binghamton answered the early run, clamping down defensively and scored 10 straight, capped off by two free throws from junior Kai Moon, making the score 12-6 with just under two minutes remaining in the opening period. The Hawks climbed back within one at the buzzer as freshman Jabria Ingram recorded her third steal of the quarter and laid it in making the score 14-13 in favor of the Bearcats after one.
 
It continued to be a back-and-forth game in the second quarter with neither team leading by more than two points until the Bearcat's sophomore Kaylee Wasco took a pass from freshman Annie Ramil for the layup and the 23-20 lead. Binghamton pushed its lead to five (30-25) at the half, fueled by a 24-13 advantage on the boards in the opening stanza. 
 
After the Bearcats pushed its lead to 10 at the start of the third, Hartford made one final surge to climb back into the game, going on a 11-3 run to move within two at 42-40. Binghamton, however, took control of the game after this rally, pushing its lead to as many as 19, and closing out the 73-63 victory over the Hawks.
