VESTAL, N.Y. — A first-half goal by senior
Sierra Stone coupled with a plethora of clutch saves by junior
Maia Perez led the Hartford women's soccer team to a crucial 1-0 road win at Binghamton on Thursday. With their fourth straight victory, the Hawks (7-5-1) improve to 4-1-0 in America East action, while the Bearcats (8-5-2) fall to 2-3-1 in league play.
HARTFORD 1, BINGHAMTON 0
Hartford's first and only shot attempt of the first half in the 34th minute proved to be the deciding factor, as Stone took a pass from junior
Alexis Doran and buried a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the net to give the Hawks the lead.
Perez, who finished the opening half with five saves, made three big stops in the final minute of the stanza to preserve the lead. Making a kick save on a shot by Dora Hayes, her quick action prevented counters by Olivia McKnight and Sarah Dibble from knotting up the score. Perez would make two more saves over the final 45 to preserve the shutout victory for the Hawks.
