WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Junior
Jada Lucas put up a career-high 21 points as the Hartford women's basketball team dropped a 68-56 decision to Rhode Island at Reich Family Pavilion on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 0-2 on the young season with the loss, while URI improved to 2-0 on the season.

After falling behind 7-1 to open the game, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run to take an 8-7 lead for its only lead of the game. The Rams responded with a 27-6 run into the second quarter, to hold a 34-14 lead over the Hawks with 1:33 left before the break. Hartford closed the half with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 36-22 at halftime.
The Rams pushed its lead to 51-31 with 3:12 left in the third quarter after outscoring the Hawks 15-9 to open the third. However, Hartford closed the quarter with a 9-0 run, with
Irene Primo scoring six of the points to cut the deficit to 51-40 heading into the fourth quarter. However, the deficit seemed to be too great as the Hawks would not get within single digits en route to the 68-56 defeat.

- Lucas scored a career-high 21 points and added two steals
- Jordan McLemore's six assists matched her career-high
- Senior Lawrencia Moten totaled nine rebounds and five blocks, both career-highs
- Sophomore Charlotte Leurs added career-highs of 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the loss
- Rhode Island's Nicole Jorgensen led the way with a game-high 21 points
