Women's Hoops Slips Past New Hampshire Late

 
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford women's hoops pulled away late from New Hampshire for its 11th America East win of the season, 56-49, Wednesday night.

Sophomore Jade Young finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds for her second-career double-double, as the Hawks improved to 18-9 overall and 10-2 in conference play. Freshman Ivy Gogolin had a game-high 23 points, as the Wildcats fall to 10-15 overall and 6-6 in the America East.
 
HARTFORD 56 NEW HAMPSHIRE 49
After jumping ahead by five points (17-12) in the first quarter, Hartford continued to lead going into the second period. The Hawks pushed their lead to as many as seven after a jumper from senior Kelly Douglass made the score 21-14 with 7:12 remaining in the half. The Wildcats, however, climbed back into the game, going on a 14-6 run to finish the quarter, and take a 28-27 lead heading into the locker room.
 
The game continued to be a battle in the second half, as the game was tied four different times in the opening two-and-a-half minutes of the third period. Hartford finally took the lead back from New Hampshire after a three pointer from senior Alexia Douglas made the score 38-35 with 6:59 remaining. The Wildcats made one final push to tie the game with 1:45 remaining in the game, but the Hawks scored the final seven points of the game to secure the victory, 56-49.

  • On top of her second career double-double, Young matched a career-high with 13 rebounds
  • With 11 points, senior Lindsey Abed has scored in double-figures in the last six games
  • DaCosta finished with a game-high four steals, to finish with four-or-more steals for the second-straight game
  • Freshman Sierra Smith made her first career start, registering seven points, five rebounds and one steal

  • The Hawks will host an America East quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m.
