Hartford Scores Victory over UMass Lowell on Senior Day

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford women's hoops overcame a slow start to pull away from UMass Lowell and score the, 69-45, victory on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon.

Senior Lindsey Abed finished with a game-high 20 points and sophomore Jade Young registered her second consecutive double-double, as the Hawks improved to 19-9 overall and 12-2 in conference play. Graduate student Brianna Rudolph led the River Hawks with 10, as UMass Lowell fell to 7-21 overall and 3-12 in the America East.

The River Hawks took advantage of a slow start by Hartford, starting the game on a 12-2 run capped off by a jumper from Rudolph. UMass Lowell continued to lead midway through the second quarter until Young knocked down two from the free throw line giving Hartford the 20-19 lead. From that point forward, the Hawks took control of the game, closing out the half on a 12-3 run for the 32-23 lead.
 
Hartford put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the River Hawks 23-7. Abed had 10 of her game 20 points in the quarter, while classmate Alexia Douglas had eight of her 11 points. The Hawks finished off UMass Lowell in the fourth to finish off their 12th conference win of the season, 69-45.
 
 NEWS AND NOTES
  • Young registered 17 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games. Over the two games she have averaged 16 points and 11.5 rebounds per game
  • With her 20-point effort, Abed has now scored in double-figures in seven consecutive games, averaging 18.1 points per game during the run
  • In conclusion of today's win, Hartford has now clinched home court advantage through the America East semifinals
  • The Hawks scored recorded 18 steals and scored 32 points off of 28 turnovers by the River Hawks. Hartford has scored 30 or more points of turnovers eight times this season

  • With the win over Vermont last Saturday, Hartford has clinched a home game in the upcoming America East playoffs
  • The Hawks will host an America East quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m.
  • Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m.
  • Season ticket holder's seat locations will be held until Saturday, March 2
