UMASS LOWELL, Mass. – Senior
Travis Weatherington led five Hawks in double figures with 18 points to carry the Hartford men's basketball team to a 75-73 win at UMass Lowell on Saturday. With the victory, the Hawks (15-13), improve to 8-5 in the America East, while the River Hawks (14-15) drop to 6-8 in league action.
HARTFORD 75, UMASS LOWELL 73
Scoring the first seven points of the night, Hartford led by as many as 11 in the early part of the half until a 5-0 spurt from the River Hawks closed the gap to six (27-21) with 8:04 to go. The Hawks answered by scoring the game's next eight points to go up by 14, but UMass Lowell accounted for 16 of the final 24 points of the half to trim Hartford's lead to 43-39 at halftime.
Despite UMass Lowell cutting into its deficit, Hartford maintained at least a one-point advantage until Shawn Jones knotted up the score on a layup at 51-all with 9:14 left. The two sides faced one more tie after exchanging a pair of three-pointers, before nine-straight points by Hartford put the visitors on top, 63-54, with just over five minutes to go. The River Hawks had one more late push, slashing the deficit to one on an 8-1 spurt, but the Hawks put the game away with a 4-for-4 effort from the line down the stretch.

- Redshirt-senior John Carroll added 15 points, while senior George Blagojevic compiled his second-straight double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- Hartford pushed its lead in the all-time series to 11-6.
- The River Hawks finished the game shooting 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the field, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from long range.
- The Hawks cashed in from the free-throw line, going 21-of-24 for 87.5 percent.
- Jason Dunne, who finished with 10 points, went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.
