Hawks Secure First 20-Win in Six Years with Victory Over Bearcats

Box Score  WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford women's hoops recorded its first 20-win season since the 2012-13 season, topping Binghamton, 63-50, Wednesday evening.

Senior Lindsey Abed finished with a game-high 15 points and tied the school record for career three-pointers with 222, as the Hawks improved to 20-9 overall and 13-2 in conference play. Annie Ramil registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, as Binghamton fell to 12-16 overall and 7-8 in the America East.

Hartford jumped out to an 18-7 after the opening quarter, thanks in part to forcing 10 Binghamton turnovers and taking advantage of the fast break, scoring nine points in transition. The Bearcats closed within seven points in the second quarter, after Annie Ramil scored back-to-back baskets to make the score 24-17 with 3:43 remaining in the period. The Hawks however closed out the half on a 6-2 run to push its lead back to 11 at 30-19.
 
Binghamton moved within double-digits in the third quarter, starting the period on a 5-0 run, capped off by a free-throw from Olivia Ramil, making the score 30-24. Hartford answered, and finished the quarter on a 16-4 run, to take a 46-30 lead into the fourth quarter. The Hawks pushed their lead to as many as 17 in the final period to wrap up its 13th America East win of the season, 63-50.

  • With her three, three-pointers, Abed has now tied MaryLynne Schaefer (05-09) and Amber Bepko (11-15) for the programs top spot with 222 career three-pointers
  • Hartford wraps up its first 20-win season since the 2012-13 team finished 21-12 and made an appearance in the opening round of the WNIT Tournament
  • Graduate Ella Awobajo returned to the Hawks' line up after a five-game absence, coming off the bench to score seven points and grab four rebounds
  • Sophomore Jade Young scored 13 points and added seven boards for her fourth straight game in double figures. Young is averaging 15.3 points and 8.5 rebounds over the last four contests

  • With the win over Vermont earlier this month, Hartford has clinched a home game in the upcoming America East playoffs
  • The Hawks will host an America East quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m.
  • Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m.
  • Season ticket holder's seat locations will be held until Saturday, March 2
