NEW BRITAIN, Conn. –Hartford softball split with Central Connecticut, winning game one, 3-0, and dropping game two, 10-5, Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore
Danielle Rocheleau went 4-7 with her second home run of the season for Hartford, as the Hawks improve to 1-7 on the season. With the split, the Blue Devils snap a four game winning streak with a record of 6-7.
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 3 CENTRAL CONNECTICUT 0
After a scoreless three innings to start the game, Rocheleau supplied the power in the bottom of the fourth crushing a two-run bomb to left field plating sophomore
Nicolette Barranger for the 2-0 lead.
The Hawks tacked onto their lead in the bottom of the sixth as freshman
Haley Cassidy stepped to the plate with freshman
Paige Fedak on first and Rocheleau on third. She then grounded out to the shortstop but not before Rocheleau came into score for the final run of the game, giving the Hawks the 3-0 victory.
GAME TWO: CENTRAL CONNECTICUT 10 HARTFORD 5
Central Connecticut used five runs in the top of the third to take a 7-1 lead. After getting a run back in the bottom of the third, Hartford took advantage of the bases loaded scoring three runs thanks to RBI's from Barranger and Rocheleau. The Blue Devils however scored three more runs to secure a split and close out the 10-5 victory
NEWS AND NOTES
- Freshman Julianna Kocenski (1-4) went the distance for her first shutout of the season in game one, striking out a season-high five batters and allowing only five hits
- With her four hits, Rocheleau pushes her season batting average to .654. She now leads the conference in batting average and on base percentage (.630), is second in slugging (1.038) and is tied for second with two home runs
- Fedak finished with two hits in game one and two for her second and third multi-hit games of the season
