Women's Hoops Falls in America East Championship Game

 BANGOR, Maine. –In a rematch of last year's America East Championship game, Hartford fell to Maine, 68-48, Friday night. 
 
Junior Sierra DaCosta, who was named the America East All-Tournament team, led Hartford with 18 points, as the Hawks fall to 23-10 overall. Junior Biance Millan finished with a game-high 19 points, as the Black Bears wrapped up theirs second-consecutive conference championship and improve to 24-7 on the season

Maine jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 10-points of the game capped off by layup by Millan with 7:03 remaining in the period forcing Hartford to call timeout. After the timeout, the Black Bears continued to lead by 10, closing out the opening quarter with an 18-8 lead.
 
Maine pushed its lead to as many as 14 in the second period before the Hawks began to chip away at the lead, closing out the half on a 11-3 run making the halftime score 32-26. DaCosta scored seven to pace the run and help Hartford cut the lead to six points.
 
The Hawks continued to charge at the start of the third quarter as graduate student Ella Awobajo and DaCosta each started the period off with layups to bring Hartford all the way back within two points (32-30). The Black Bears, however, ended the rally with a 9-0 run to push its lead back to 11 before taking a 51-38 lead heading into the final quarter. Maine wrapped up the victory in the fourth quarter, holding the Hawks to 10 points for the 68-48 victory.
 
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • DaCosta became 20th player in program history to earn All-Tournament Team honors and the first since Janelle Harrison and Darby Lee were selected last season
  • Awobajo matched DaCosta with a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds
  • This was Hartford's 11th trip to the America East Championship game, bringing its record to 5-6 in the title game.
