Women's Hoops Wraps Up Regular Season with Victory over Great Danes

ALBANY, N.Y. – Hartford women's hoops secured the two seed in the upcoming America East Tournament, topping UAlbany, 68-56, on the final day of the regular-season.
 
Four different players scored in double-figures for the Hawks, as Hartford finishes the regular season 22-9 overall and 14-2 in conference play. Kyara Frames registered a game-high 21 points, as the Great Danes fall to 12-17 overall and 9-7 in the America East.

UAlbany jumped out to the early lead in the first quarter, using a 12-2 run to end the period, capped off by a jumper by Heather Forster, to take a 14-8 lead heading into the second. The Hawks began to chip away at the Great Danes lead, and scored their first advantage of the second quarter with a jumper by sophomore Jade Young with just under three minutes remaining in the half. The two teams swapped the lead one last time before the second quarter ended with the score tied, 28-28.
 
After taking a four-point lead at the end of the third quarter, Hartford pushed its lead to nine, as junior Sierra DaCosta knocked down a three-pointer with 7:33 remaining in the game, making the score 55-46. UAlbany closed within six one last time, but would not get any closer, as the Hawks pushed their lead to as many as 14 to take the 68-56 victory.
 
 NEWS AND NOTES
  • With her two, three-pointers, senior Lindsey Abed has now moved into first place in program history in career three-pointers. She passes MaryLynne Schaefer (05-09) and Amber Bepko (11-15) for the programs top spot with 224 career three-pointers
  • Hartford wraps up its first 20-win season since the 2012-13 team finished 21-12 and made an appearance in the opening round of the WNIT Tournament
  • In her second game back in the Hartford line up, graduate student Ella Awobajo finished with 15 points, going a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line
  • The Hawks' bench put together a strong performance tonight, scoring a combined 24 points, led by Awobajo's 15 and nine more from freshman Sierra Smith
