Playing to a 3-3 tie after one quarter, Logan Liljeberg put the Pioneers up by one less than two minutes into the second stanza. But Hartford caught fire, scoring six of the game's next seven goals to erase the deficit and take a four-goal advantage at 9-5 with 2:02 to go. Sacred Heart delivered the final two daggers of the half, though, as Max Tuttle closed the gap to two with a pair of scores 15 seconds apart.

The Hawks drew blood first in the second half behind a Jinks score to regain a three-goal advantage within the first minute. The Pioneers quickly answered that marker, scoring five unanswered to erase the deficit and take a 12-10 lead heading into the final quarter. Another goal from Jinks just over two minutes in pulled Hartford within one, but Sacred Heart would score four of the game's last five goals to seal the win.
