WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –Hartford baseball used five runs in the fifth inning to come from behind and top Marist, 8-3, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors
Chris Sullivan,
Ashton Bardzell and
Drew Holtgrieve combined for six RBI, as the Hawks improved to 12-16 overall. Senior Anthony Lazar smashed his fourth home run of the season, as the Red Foxes fell to 13-17 on the year.
HARTFORD 8 MARIST 3
After Marist took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, Hartford sprung its comeback in the bottom of the fifth scoring five runs.
With runners on second and third, Holtgrieve got the rally started, knocking a double down the left field line, scoring sophomore
John Thrasher and freshman
Devin Kellogg, making the score 3-2.
Later in the inning, Sullivan had the eventual game winning hit, sending a single to center field and plating junior
Zachary Ardito and Holtgrieve for the 5-2 lead.
Sophomore
Drew DeMartino wrapped up the inning with a RBI single of his own, giving the Hawks a 6-2 lead after five.
The Red Foxes managed to get one run back in top of the seventh, before Bardzell put an exclamation point on the game with a two-run bomb to right field, capping Hartford's 8-3 victory.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Sophomore James Judenis (1-2) earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs on four hits and matching a season-high with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work
- With his seventh inning blast, Bardzell now leads the team with four home runs and is now tied for second in the category in the America East
- On top of his two RBI, Sullivan registered a team-high two runs scored. He is third on the team with 17 runs scored
- Since the start of 2018, Hartford is 22-11 at Fiondella Field
