HAMDEN, Conn. –Hartford softball split with in-state foes Quinnipiac, falling in game one 6-0, but coming back to take game two, 9-8, Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore
Nicolette Barranger and freshman
Paige Fedak combined for four RBI, including, as the Hawks improve to 13-21 overall. Kayla Jensen and Erin Larsen each hit a triple, as the Bobcats improve to 13-24.
GAME ONE: QUINNIPIAC 6 HARTFORD 0
Quinnipiac took game one from the jump, scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to two RBI singles and a RBI fielders choice. The Bobcats went on to a run in the third, fourth and fifth inning to score the 6-0 victory.
Sophomore
Kiana Harris highlighted game one, going 2-2, while senior
Kylie Dazalla sophomores
Danielle Rocheleau,
Lily Sencer and Fedak each had a hit.
GAME TWO: HARTFORD 9 QUINNIPIAC 8
After Quinnipiac ran out to a 7-1 lead in the first two inning, Hartford responded with five runs in the top of the fourth. Barranger got the rally going with a triple to center field, scoring junior
Madison Hilimire.
Rocheleau then followed up with a single to left field, plating Barranger and making the score 7-3.
Dazalla and freshman
Emma Curry combined for three RBI to finish of the inning, cutting the Bobcats' lead to one (7-6).
Quinnipiac pushed its lead back to two (8-6) before the Hawks completed the rally in the seventh inning. Barrange once again started the run in the seventh with the bases loaded, as she reached on a bases loaded fielder choice, scoring junior
Amber Mianti. Fedak then forced the winning run across, bringing Barrange and Sencer and giving the Hawks their first lead since the opening inning, 9-8.
Junior
Isabella Gerone closed out the game in the bottom of the inning, putting down the Bobcat batter in order for the victory.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Gerone (3-2) earned her third win of the season, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out two in six innings of work
- With her fifth triple of the season, Barranger now leads the America East and is tied for seventh in Division I with five on the season
- Rocheleau finished the day with four hits and continues to lead the team with a .450 batting average. She is second in the conference in the category
