Baseball's Late Rally Falls Short to Rams

HARTFORD, Conn. –Hartford baseball closed within two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but could not come all the way back as Rhode Island took the midweek match up, 10-7, Wednesday night.
 
Senior Ashton Bardzell hit a grand slam in the seventh inning,as the Hawks fall to 12-20 overall. Kevin Heiss finished with a team-high three RBI, as the Rams improve to 17-18 on the year.

With Rhode Island holding a six run lead midway through the seventh, Hartford closed within two with one swing of the bat. Bardzell stepped into the batter's box and cranked the 1-2 pitch of the right field wall for his fifth home run of the year, making the score 8-6.
 
However, that is as close as the Hawks would get, as the Rams tacked on two more, taking Hartford's first game of the season at Dunkin' Donuts Park, 10-7.

  • Sophomore James Judenis threw a career-high seven strikeouts in his sixth start of the season
  • With his grand slam tonight, Bardzell is now tied for the conference lead with five home runs on the season
  • Senior Chris Sullivan registered two RBI bringing his season total to 30, one shy of his career-high
