POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Hartford softball split a midweek doubleheader with Marist, falling in game one, 3-1, before coming back to take game two, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Kylie Dazalla registered four RBI between the two games, as the Hawks improve to 12-15 overall. Morgan Gianelle finished the day with two RBI and a run scored, as the Red Foxes improve to 17-16 overall.
GAME ONE: MARIST 3 HARTFORD 1
In game one, Gianelle struck first for Marist with a two-run single to right field, giving the Red Foxes the early 2-0 lead. Marist added to it lead in the same inning, as Olivia Knopf hit a sacrifice fly to right, plating Kaley Coltrai.
Hartford attempted to rally in the fourth inning as sophomore Danielle Rocheleau led the inning of with a double to left center field. After advancing to third, Dazalla stepped in and knocked a single down the left field line, scoring Rocheleau.
The Hawks, however, could not find another run in game one and fell to Marist, 3-1.
GAME TWO: HARTFORD 4 MARIST 2
Dazalla picked up right where she left on in game two in her first at bat as she laced a single to center field, bringing in freshman Paige Fedak and Rocheleau for the early 2-0 lead.
After Dazalla hit another RBI single in the third inning, sophomore Nicolette Barranger got in on the scoring action. With sophomore Lily Sencer on first, Barranger slapped a triple down the left field line, bringing Sencer all the way around to score and give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
Marist managed to get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, but Hartford shut the door earning a win in game two, 4-2.
NEWS AND NOTES
- After taking the loss in game one, freshman Julianna Kocenski bounced back in game two to earn her third save of the season, pitching the final three innings allowing no runs or hits and striking out two
- Senior Melissa Pereira (3-5) earned the win in game two, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits and struck out one
- Dazalla went 2-3 in game two and finished with a career-high three RBI
