WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –Hartford baseball came back to force extra innings, but could not finish of the victory, as UMass Lowell took game one 5-3 in 10 innings Friday afternoon.
Sophomore
John Thrasher hit his second home run of the season,as the Hawks fall to 14-28 overall and 7-9 in the America East. Junior Cam Climo hit two home runs, as the River Hawks improve to 12-31 on the season and 7-9 in conference play.
UMASS LOWELL 5 HARTFORD 3 (10)
UMass Lowell scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth, as Climo sent the first pitch of the inning over the left field wall for the 1-0 lead.
Hartford mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth with one out. After Thrasher walked and senior
Chris Sullivan singled to the shortstop to put runners on first and second, senior
Ashton Bardzell singled to center field, scoring Thrasher from second. The Hawks loaded the bases, but could not capitalize, pushing the game to extra innings.
After a short rain delay, UMass Lowell scored four runs in the top of the 10th to take a 5-1 lead.
Hartford, however, was not done yet as Thrasher sent a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall to cut the River Hawks' lead to two (5-3). The Hawks brought the tying run to the plate but could not complete the rally, as UMass Lowell took game one, 5-3.
