BALTIMORE, Md. –Hartford softball dropped a double header to UMBC, 9-0 and 3-2, Friday afternoon in America East action.
Freshman
Emma Curry hit her fourth home run of the season,as the Hawks fall to 19-29 overall and 5-12 in conference play. Freshman Courtney Coopersmith became the second pitch in America East history to throw 300 strikeouts in a single season, as the Retrievers improve to 26-21 on the season, and 7-10 in conference play.
GAME ONE: UMBC 9 HARTFORD 0 (FIVE INNINGS)
After UMBC scored one run in the bottom of the second, the Retrievers erupted for eight runs in the third inning to do all the damage they needed for the 9-0 victory. Kaly Winslow highlighted the inning for UMBC, knocking a two-run triple to down the right field line, securing the game one victory.
GAME TWO: UMBC 3 HARTFORD 2
Hartford took the lead in the second inning, as sophomore
Kiana Harris led off with a walk to put one on. Curry then stepped and sent the 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for the 2-0 lead.
The Retrievers answered in the fifth inning scoring three runs on four hits to take the 3-2 lead.
Hartford would not find a baserunner the rest of the way, as UMBC took game two, 3-2.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Freshman Julianna Kocenski (13-15) went the distance in game two, allowing three runs on nine hits
- With her two RBI, Curry is now tied for fourth on the team with 15 on the season
- Sophomore Danielle Rocheleau pushed her program record to 64 hits this season
