BOSTON, Mass. — Sophomore
Danielle Rocheleau and freshman
Julianna Kocenski each received All-Conference recognition from the America East, the organization announced at its annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday evening. Rocheleau was named to the All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team, while Kocenski garnered All-Rookie Team honors.
An outfielder from Whitinsville, Mass., Rocheleau has enjoyed a record-breaking campaign at the plate for the Hawks in 2019. Entering the postseason ranked second in the America East with a .426 batting average, she has shattered the program's single-season records in hits (66), RBI (35) and total bases (97). In addition, Rocheleau carried Hartford through conference play, leading the way with eight runs and eight RBI.
Inside the classroom, Rocheleau has been just as impressive. She holds a 3.85 grade-point average — the fourth highest mark among the 10-member All-Academic Team — as an international studies/politics and government major.
Koncenski becomes the second Hawk in as many years to receive All-Rookie Team honors after leading Hartford inside the circle. A native of North Arlington, N.J., she has struck out a team-best 82 strikeouts in 179.2 innings. Posting 14 wins — the most for a Harford pitcher since Zuzana Kudernatschova had 14 in 2013 — her three saves rank first among all America East hurlers.
The No. 5 seed in the America East Championship, the Hawks begin postseason play on Wednesday, May 8, when they host No. 4 UMBC at 11 a.m. Hartford, which is coming off its first 20-win season since 2013, will be making its first trip to the conference tournament since 2017.
For the first time in program history, Hartford will serve as the host for the entire 2019 America East Championship. The six-team, double-elimination tournament will feature a winner's bracket and a loser's bracket, with the sole survivor from each side advancing to the title game on Saturday, May 11 (12 p.m.).
