WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford women's soccer team played Lafayette to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon on Al-Marzook Field. Junior goalkeeper
Maia Perez made four saves for the Hawks, who move to 2-1-1. With the draw, the Leopards shift to 1-2-1.
HARTFORD 0, LAFAYETTE 0 (2ot)
In a back-and-forth first half, Lafayette, which held a 6-3 edge in shots during that stretch, produced two of the best scoring opportunities of the stanza. In the 36th minute, Melissa Lamanna fired a misplayed ball towards the lower left corner of the net, but junior
Magalie Kayrouz was on the goal line to make the save and force a corner. Another team save — this time by
Ishani Sharma — prevented a go-ahead tally off the set piece, as Caitlin Balmer's shot was kicked away by the Hartford rookie.
Neither team was able to break open the match in the second half, despite several chances. After a quiet first overtime stanza that saw both sides go without a shot attempt, Sharma blasted a shot from short distance in the 103rd minute, but Lafayette keeper Natalie Newmann was in place to make the stop. Just two minutes later, Camryn Monfort came inches away from sending home the game-winner, as the Leopards' final shot attempt of the match hit the near post.
