Lucas' 14 Points Leads Women's Basketball Past New Hampshire, 64-57

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —  Senior guard Jada Lucas led the Hawks with 14 points, as the Hartford women's basketball team beat New Hampshire, 64-57, inside the Reich Family Pavilion on Tuesday afternoon to earn the season sweep over the Wildcats.

With the win the Hawks improved to 2-2 on the season and in the America East, while the Wildcats fell to 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference-play.

HARTFORD 64, NEW HAMPSHIRE 57
Trailing 8-7 midway through the first quarter, Hartford closed the period with an 11-3 run powered by two three-pointers from Jada Lucas to take an 18-11 lead into the second. The Hawks hot start continued in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 24-11 after back-to-back three-pointers from Jordan McLeMore and Abby Streeter. However, New Hampshire countered with a 9-0 run to cut Hartford's lead to 26-22 with 5:45 to go before the break. Unwavered, the Hawks used the final 5:21 of the half to outscore the Wildcats 11-5, carrying a 37-27 lead into the break.

Hartford outscored New Hampshire 8-3 to open the half, pushing its lead to 15 points with 4:33 to go in the quarter, its largest of the game. However, the Wildcats used the final 3:43 of the quarter to go on a 12-5 run to cut the Hawks' lead to 50-42 entering the final period.

New Hampshire kept its foot on the gas, opening the fourth with an 8-2 run to cut Hartford's lead to 52-50 with 5:44 remaining in regulation. Marisa Lee scored on a put-back through contact and nailed the following free-throw to stop the Hartford drought, pushing the Hawks' lead to 55-50 with 4:50 remaining. New Hampshire was able to cut it as close as 56-55 with 2:33 remaining, but the Hawks were able to make eight free throws in the final 2:14 to hold on for the 64-57 win.
