VESTAL, N.Y. — Senior
Breyenne Bellerand scored a career-high 16 points as the Hartford women's basketball team beat Binghamton, 64-54, on Dr. Bai Lee Court inside Events Center on Saturday afternoon to extend the Hawks' win streak to three games.
Sierra Smith added six points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds, the second most in a single game in program history.
With the win the Hawks improved to 3-2 on the season and in the America East, while the Bearcats fell to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference-play.
HARTFORD 64, BINGHAMTON 54
Hartford used the opening four minutes of the contest to jump out to a 9-0 start, before allowing Binghamton to score its first basket midway through the first quarter. Despite the Hawks' hot start, the Bearcats were able to cut the deficit to 13-12. However, back-to-back threes from
Jada Lucas and
Breyenne Bellerand gave Hartford a 19-12 lead entering the second quarter.
The Hawks opened the second quarter by outscoring the Bearcats 7-3, pushing the lead to 10 points. Hartford forced Binghamton to shoot 35% from the field in the second quarter, carrying a 33-25 lead into the break.
Hartford held Binghamton to 2-for-16 shooting from the field in the third quarter, building its lead to 22 points at one point and carrying a 52-31 lead into the fourth. The Bearcats cut it as close as 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks held on for the 64-54 win.
