WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —Sophomore
Moses Flowers led five players in double figures with 16 points to lead Hartford men's basketball to an 80-65 win against neighboring rival Central Connecticut on Friday night. The Hawks improve to 2-2 with the home-opening victory, while the Blue Devils fall to 0-3 on the season.

After Hartford and CCSU exchanged blows to open the game, the Hawks used a 14-4 run over a three-minute stretch to turn a one-point deficit into a 12-point lead at 34-22 with 2:29 left until halftime. Mitchell,
PJ Henry and Flowers knocked down three-pointers during that stretch, which gave Hartford its largest lead of the stanza. The Blue Devils would close the gap to five inside the final minute, but a Flowers layup before the buzzer sent Hartford into the break with a 37-30 lead.
Hartford, which never relinquished its advantage, continued to control the game in the second half. The Hawks knocked down nine three-pointers in the stanza, with Mitchell's fourth triple of the night extending the lead to 19 — the largest of the game — with 4:45 left.

- Williams posted Hartford's first double-double, scoring 15 points while adding 10 rebounds
- Mitchell, who went 4-of-5 from three-point land, added scored 15 points off the bench
- Grad student Traci Carter and freshman Thomas Webley rounded out the Hawks' top scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively
- Carter recorded five steals as the Hawks finished with a season-high 11
- The Hawks, who shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the field and 41.4 percent from three (12-of-29), made a season-best 12 three-pointers to Central Connecticut's six
- With its second straight win against CCSU, Hartford closed the gap in the all-time series to 11-10
- Hartford outrebounded CCSU by a 36-20 margin
