Ellison's Double-Double Propels Men's Hoops Past UAlbany, 66-60

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Grad student Malik Ellison recorded his eighth double-double on the season to lead the Hartford men's basketball team past UAlbany, 66-60, on Wednesday night. Scoring a team-best 18 points, Ellison pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds to lead the Hawks (14-12, 7-4 AE) to the regular-season sweep of the Great Danes (13-12, 6-5 AE).
 
Senior Romain Boxus added a career-high 14 points on a 4-for-4 effort from long range, while freshman Moses Flowers also scored 14 to pace the Hawks.

After a back-and-forth opening half that saw UAlbany take a 25-22 advantage into the break, Hartford came out of the second half strong by delivering 16 of the first 20 points of the stanza to go up, 38-29. The Great Danes would claw back to tie up the contest at 48-all on a three-pointer from Romani Hansen, but Boxus delivered two of his four three-pointers within a two-minute stretch to put the Hwaks in front, 56-50, with 5:17 to go.
 
UAlbany made one final run, pulling within two with 44.7 seconds left, but sophomore Hunter Marks, who scored all 12 of his points after halftime, delivered a three-pointer to make it 63-58 with 18.5 seconds left to play.

  • Ellison's 19 rebounds were the most by a Hawk since at least 1998
  • The last player to grab 18 rebounds was Kenny Adeleke against Boston University in 2006
  • Flowers (8-of-18) also had 14 points, while Marks added 12 points on a 3-of-6 effort from three-point land
  • The Hawks finished 45.5 percent from long range (10-of-22), including 54.5 percent in the decisive second half (6-of-11)
  • Clark poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Great Danes
