Women's Hoops Comes up Short in 64-56 Road Loss at UMass Loss

LOWELL, Mass. —  Carmen Villalobos scored a team-high 16 points, as the Hartford women's basketball team narrowly fell to America East foe UMass Lowell, 64-56, inside the Tsongas Center in the Hawks' road finale on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fell to 0-26 on the year and 0-13 in the America East, while the River Hawks improved to 13-13 on the season and 9-4 in conference play.

Trailing 7-4 midway through the first quarter, the Hawks went on a 10-2 run to take a 14-9 lead with 1:22 left in the period. However, the River Hawks responded with back-to-back threes to take a 15-14 lead into the second quarter. Trailing 17-15, Hartford went on a 7-2 run to take a 22-19 lead with 5:55 to go before the break. After UMass Lowell responded with a 5-0 run, the Hawks used the final 4:15 of the half to outscore the River Hawks, 9-5, taking a 31-29 lead into the break.

Trailing 33-29, UMass Lowell went on a 10-2 run to take a 39-35 lead over Hartford midway through the third quarter. The Hawks responded with four straight points to tie the contest at 39-39, but UMass Lowell's Julianna Sanchez drilled a three-pointer with 39 seconds left in the third to give the River Hawks a 42-39 lead entering the fourth. 

Hartford used the opening 3:18 of the fourth quarter to outscore UMass Lowell, taking a 48-46 lead. Trailing 52-51 with five minutes left in regulation, the River Hawks closed the contest with a 13-4 run to secure the 64-56 win over Hartford.
