Malik Ellison led all scorers with 29 points to lead the third-place Hawks (16-14), who improve to 9-6 in the America East with the win.
With two regular-season games remaining, Seawolves (18-11), who are in second in the league standings, drop to 9-5 in the conference. Makale Foreman scored 18 points to lead Stony Brook, while Andrew Garcia pitched in 14 points and 10 rebounds.
HARTFORD 65, STONY BROOK 54
A hot start from behind the arc helped Stony Brook jump out to an 11-2 lead out of the gates. Pulling within one at a 15-14 on a 9-2 run capped by a
Romain Boxus three ball, the Hawks stormed back from a 23-16 deficit on a huge 23-3 run, including 16-straight points sparked by consecutive three-pointers from D.J Mitchell,
Michael Dunne and
Traci Carter.
Ellison scored 20 of his game-best 28 in the second half as the Hawks led by as many as 18 with 12:01 to go. Stony Brook made a late run and closed the gap down to seven (61-54) with a 9-0 run with 1:28 to go, but Ellison drilled a jumper and threw home a dunk inside the final minute to seal the win.

- Hartford was once again solid in defending the three, limiting Stony Brook to 15.4 percent (4-of-26)
- The Seawolves shot 31.7 percent from the floor (20-of-63) to the Hawks' 41.7 percent (25-of-60)
- With Wednesday's win, the Hawks swept the regular-season series from the Seawolves for the first time since 2008
- Carter came away with seven steals, and with 73 in 2019-20, he now holds the single-season records for most thefts in a season
