STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Hawks had three different players tally hat-tricks on Saturday afternoon to lead the Hartford men's lacrosse past Wagner on the road, 18-9, on Hameline Field. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 1-5.
HARTFORD 18, WAGNER 9
Trailing 2-0 in the first, Malik Gay found the back of the net for the first goal of his collegiate career to put the Hawks on the board. Hunter Krauss followed with a goal of his own to knot the contest at 2-2, before Wagner took a 3-2 lead with 2:40 left in the first. However, the Hawks were able to tie the contest at 3-3 entering the second quarter, courtesy of a Braeden McKercher goal late in the first. The second quarter was all Hartford, with six different players tallying a goal, led by Carter O'Connell's two scores blazing the way for the Hawks' 7-0 run in the period. The run was capped by a goal from Justin Tkachuk, giving Hartord a 10-3 advantage entering the break.
Hartford kept the momentum going after the break, tacking on two more unanswered scores to push its lead to 12-3 with 13:51 left in the third. But the Seahawks responded by scoring three straight goals to trim the Hawks' lead to 12-6 with 6:39 left in the third quarter. Hartford closed the third with two consecutive goals, followed by two more to take a commanding 16-6 lead with 10:34 remaining in the contest.
