WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Hartford Department of Athletics saw its student-athletes enjoy an exceptional academic semester this past fall. The Hawks endured the challenges of an online learning environment to earn a 3.50 departmental grade-point average for the 2020 fall semester, marking the 29th consecutive semester that Hartford's student-athletes have finished with at least a 3.0 departmental GPA.
Hartford saw 78 percent of its 451 student-athletes earn a GPA of 3.0 or better, as 353 individuals reached that mark. In addition, 60 percent (270 student-athletes) of Hawks student-athletes achieved at least a 3.5 GPA, while 81 individuals posted a perfect 4.0 GPA this past fall.
Hartford's teams enjoyed unprecedented academic success this past semester, as all 17 teams posted at least a 3.0 GPA for the second consecutive semester.
Setting the pace for the Hawks was the volleyball team, which combined for a 3.83 GPA. Fourteen of the team's 15 members combined for a GPA of at least 3.5, including six student-athletes that posted a perfect 4.0 mark.
The women's golf team posted the second-highest GPA in the department (3.78) after seeing eight of their nine-member squad earn a GPA of 3.5, with two earning a perfect 4.0 GPA. The women's golf team was followed by women's cross country (3.74), softball (3.70) and women's soccer (3.69).
Men's cross country led Hartford's men's teams with a 3.62 GPA, followed by baseball (3.39), men's lacrosse (3.36) and men's indoor and outdoor track and field (3.34).
The Hawks have enjoyed unprecedented success in the classroom for quite some time. Despite the America East Walter Harrison Academic Cup not being awarded last year, they have taken home the prestigious Academic Cup seven times since the inception of the award, including each year from 2012-15.
