Women's Basketball Falls Short at Binghamton, 52-44

VESTAL, N.Y. —  Junior Jordan McLemore tallied 10 points as the Hartford women's basketball team fell to Binghamton, 52-44, on Dr. Bai Lee Court inside Events Center on Sunday afternoon to snap the Hawks' three-game win streak. Sierra Smith added nine points and 13 rebounds in the loss. 

With the loss the Hawks fell to 3-3 on the season and in the America East, while the Bearcats improved to 2-6 on the season and 2-4 in conference-play.

BINGHAMTON 52, HARTFORD 44
A back-and-forth first period saw the Hawks carry a slim 14-12 lead into the second. Binghamton used the first 6:20 of the second quarter to outscore Hartford 6-2, taking an 18-16 lead while holding the Hawks to 1-for-6 shooting from the floor during the stretch. Hartford snapped the cold streak after back-to-back buckets from Breyenne Bellerand and Paula Maurina gave the Hawks a two-point lead. However, Binghamton scored two straight buckets to close the half with a 22-20 lead over the Hawks.

After the Hawks took a four-point lead early in the third quarter, the Bearcats countered with a 6-0 run to take a 32-28 lead midway through the period. Hartford responded with a 9-3 run, capped by a put-back from Bellerand, but a three-point play at the end of the period saw Binghamton carry a 38-37 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Hawks held the Bearcats scoreless nearly the first two minutes of the fourth, taking a 40-38 lead in the process. However, Binghamton countered with a 10-2 run to push its lead to 48-42 with 2:21 remaining in regulation. The Hawks were able to cut the deficit to as close as four points within the final minute, however, the Bearcats hung on to defeat Hartford, 52-44.
