Women's Hoops Falls in First of Two Against UMass Lowell

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —  Freshman forward Paula Maurina led the Hawks with 11 points and seven rebounds, as the Hartford women's basketball team fell to UMass Lowell, 81-45, inside the Reich Family Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. 

With the loss the Hawks fell to 3-4 on the season and in the America East, while the River Hawks improved to 6-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference-play.

Holding UMass Lowell to 26.3 percent shooting from the field in the first quarter, Hartford carried a 14-13 lead into the second period. The River Hawks used a 23-3 run to take a 36-17 lead over the Hawks with 2:07 to go before the break, holding Hartford to 1-of-14 from the field during the stretch. However, the Hawks outscored the River Hawks 7-4 to close the quarter, cutting the deficit to 40-24 at halftime.

UMass Lowell outscored Hartford 22-5 in the third quarter to push its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. Hartford was able to cut the deficit as close as 28 points in the fourth before eventually falling, 81-45.
