STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Junior
Hunter Marks scored a team-high 15 points, but it wasn't enough for the Hartford men's basketball team on Sunday as it dropped a 63-49 decision at Stony Brook. Led by a 16-point outing from Frankie Policelli, the Seawolves extended a four-point halftime lead to 14 early in the second stanza and never looked back.
Settling for the regular-season sweep, Hartford (10-7 overall), which had won the previous four against Stony Brook, moves to 7-5 in America East action. The Seawolves (8-8) move to 6-4 in the conference with Sunday's win.
STONY BROOK 63, HARTFORD 49
The Hawks built a nine-point cushion early, using an 11-2 run to go up, 13-4, with 14:04 to go in the opening half. But Hartford went cold for a six-minute stretch, and Stony Brook capitalized by scoring 11-straight points, which resulted in a 15-13 edge for the home team. The two sides would exchange blows with the Seawolves ending the stanza on top with a 30-26 edge.
Out of the break, Policelli, who opened up a double-figure lead for Stony Brook with a pair of three-pointers, hit another three to make it a 14-point advantage (46-32) with 13:32 left. The Hawks would claw back, pulling with six on an 8-0 rally with half of those points coming from sophomore
Miroslav Stafl. The Seawolves had an answer for the run, though, as they halted the Hawks' comeback bid and pushed the lead back into double digits on a Juan Feliz Rodriguez three and a Omar Habwe jumper.
