WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Stony Brook on Friday night inside the Hartford Volleyball Gym. With the defeat, the Hawks (3-16) dip to 1-5 in the America East.
Led by 17 kills from Amiyah De'Long, the Seawolves (11-10) move to 5-2 in the league.
SET ONE: STONY BROOK 25, HARTFORD 16
The two sides battled in the opening set, exchanging blows to the tune of a 14-14 deadlock. Stony Brook heated up, though. Scoring seven of the next eight points to take a 21-15 advantage, the Seawolves held the Hawks to just one point down the stretch to claim the win.
SET TWO: STONY BROOK 27, HARTFORD 25
The second set was another tight one that ultimately went down to the wire. With the score tied for the 13th time at 18-all, Stony Brook rallied for four straight to take its largest lead of the set, a 22-18 advantage. The Hawks came storming back, though, as freshman
Camryn Luginbuhl capped off a 5-1 Hartford run with a kill to bring the teams back to even at 23-23. Despite leading, 25-24, Hartford was unable to close things out, as Stony Brook scored the final three points of the set to take the 2-0 edge.
SET 3: STONY BROOK 25, HARTFORD 19
Stony Brook took control early in the third set, using a 7-1 rally to pull ahead, 11-5. Facing a 16-9 deficit, the Hawks managed to close the gap down to three with four-unanswered points capped by a service ace by Greta De Gaspar. Hartford wouldn't come any closer, though, as the Seawolves scored four of the next five points to create a comfortable 20-14 cushion heading down the stretch.

NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks return to action on Sunday, when they host NJIT in an America East matchup at 3 p.m. Hartford is 2-0 against the Highlanders since they joined the league for the 2020-21 season.
