WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Sophomore
Sophie Benharouga dropped a team-high eight points as the Hartford women's basketball team fell in its non-conference finale, 86-40, to UMass on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks dip to 0-11 on the season while the Minutewomen improve to 12-2.
UMASS 86, HARTFORD 40
After trading baskets to open the game, UMass jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The Minutewomen would use a 6-0 run to further its advantage to 15-4. The Hawks would pull within eight after a
Marisa Lee and-one layup, but the Minutewomen furthered its advantage to 20-9 after the first quarter. Hartford started the second quarter strong, using a 7-4 run capped off by a
Jada Lucas stepback three-pointer to pull within single digits. UMass would respond with a 9-0 run of its own, taking a 33-16 lead with 4:27 remaining in the half. The Minutewomen would extend its lead to 42-20 at the halftime break. Lucas paced the Hawks with seven points at the half.
UMass carried its momentum into the third quarter, taking a 65-28 lead into the fourth. The deficit proved too much as the MInutewomen took home an 86-40 decision.
