UMass Lowell Pushes Past Men's Lacrosse, 12-10

LOWELL, Mass. UMass Lowell used a fourth period run to push past the Hartford men's lacrosse team, 12-10, in the Hawks' road opener Saturday on Cushing Field. Anthony Sericolo and Braeden McKercher netted three goals apiece to pace the Hawks in the loss. 
 
Hartford moves to 0-2 overall and in the America East with the loss, while UMass Lowell improves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference-play.

UMASS LOWELL 12, HARTFORD 10
The River Hawks netted a pair of goals at the 1:47 mark and the 3:30 mark to jump out to an early 2-0 lead over the Hawks. Hartford rallied, though, as James McCoy and McKercher delivered goals 41 seconds apart to knot the game at 2-2 to end the first quarter.

Hartford continued to apply pressure to open the second quarter, tallying back-to-back goals from Andrew Boniface and Sericolo within the first minute of the period to push ahead, 4-2. Sericolo followed with his second goal of the afternoon at the 4:35 mark in the period, before UMass Lowell responded with three straight goals to tie the contest at 5-5. However, the Hawks outscored the River Hawks, 2-1 over the final minute of the half to take a 7-6 lead into the break.

Both teams allowed one goal in the third period, with Tyler Corpora's goal putting the Hawks ahead 8-7 entering the final period. However, UMass Lowell opened the fourth period with five straight goals to take a commanding 12-8 lead at the 9:43 mark in the period. McKercher and Sericolo both added a third goal apiece in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as UMass Lowell held on for the 12-10 victory.

  • Defensively, senior Christian Paley caused a game-best four turnovers 
  • Sophomore Zach Buffington added a team-high six ground balls 
  • Ladyga went 7-of-13 at the X, while Justin Tkacuk
