Men's Lacrosse Holds On to Win at Binghamton, 8-7

VESTAL, N.Y. — The Hartford men's lacrosse team held off a furious Binghamton comeback bid to defeat the Bearcats, 8-7, Saturday morning at Bearcats Sports Complex. Senior Tyler Corpora, sophomore Anthony Sericolo and freshman Ethan Landymore scored two goals apiece to pace the Hawks (1-5), who improve to 1-5 in the America East.

Ryan McBeth scored each of his game-best three goals in the second half, a stretch that saw Binghamton (3-3, 3-3 AE) shut out the Hawks and pull within one inside the final minute.

After a scorching start resulted in a 4-0 lead midway through the first stanza, Hartford tacked on three more unanswered tallies to push ahead, 7-1, with 2:22 left in the quarter. Behind a 6-of-10 performance at the X, the Hawks, who forced six Bearcats' turnovers during that opening stretch, took a 7-2 lead into the second quarter.

With each side limited to one goal apiece in the second quarter to provide the halftime margin of 8-3, momentum shifted in favor of the Bearcats after the break. McBeth, who provided the only goal of the third quarter, continued his scoring run in the final quarter. Single-handedly trimming Hartford's lead down to two with a pair of scores at the 9:23 and 8:14 marks, he helped pull Binghamton within one after assisting on a Justin Roderka goal with 43 seconds left.

The Bearcats would win the ensuing faceoff, but after regaining possession on a Roderka shot that went high of the target, graduate student Ryan Lovell forced a key turnover in the closing seconds to secure the win for Hartford.
