ORONO, Maine –The Hartford softball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Maine in their series finale on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-5 on the season and 1-5 in the America East, while the Black Bears improve to 6-12 overall and 4-2 the America East.
MAINE 3, HARTFORD 1
The game started out as a pitcher's duel, with neither hurler allowing any scoring opportunities. Sophomore
Caylee English would tally two strikeouts in her second start of the series, preventing Maine from scoring a run. However, the Black Bears would strike first, tallying two runs in the fourth before adding one more in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. The Hawks would respond in the top of the sixth. With one out,
Chandler Mitchell recorded a single and followed it up with her fourth stolen base of the weekend to advance to second.
Danielle Rocheleau would get on a base in the next at bat, advancing Mitchell to third before
Mara Sczecienski hit a sacrifice fly to left, plating Mitchell and cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Hawks comeback effort would ultimately fall short as Maine took game three, and the series, 3-1.

The Hawks return to the Hartford Softball Field for a three-game set against UMass Lowell this upcoming weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m., while Sunday's first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at noon.
