Baseball Drops Friday Doubleheader at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Hartford baseball team dropped both games in its doubleheader against Stony Brook on the road, 5-2 and 7-1 on Friday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
 
With the losses, the Hawks fell to 6-4 on the season and in the America East, while the Seawolves improved to 10-7 on the campaign and 6-0 the America East. 
 
GAME ONE: STONY BROOK 5, HARTFORD 2

Hartford struck first, posting two runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. However, Stony Brook tallied a run apiece in the third and fourth innings to knot the contest at 2-2 heading into the fifth. The Seawolves added three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Hawks scoreless in the seventh to secure the 5-2 victory in game one.
 
GAME TWO: STONY BROOK 7, HARTFORD 1
Stony Brook struck first for a run in the bottom of the opening inning. In the fifth inning, the Seawolves plated six runs to push ahead 7-0, eventually holding on for a 7-1 win.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Senior Nicholas Dombkowski (2-1) got the start and took the loss in game one, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits
  • Dombkowski tallied five strikeouts in the outing
  • Drew DeMartino and Kyle Hawes contributed an RBI apiece in the opener
  • John Thrasher doubled twice in the first contest
  • Sophomore Ken Turner (0-1) got the start and took the loss after giving up four earned runs on five hits 
  • Donnie Cohoon drove in Hartford's lone run in game two

Hartford will be back in action on Saturday, April 3, when it closes weekend series against Stony Brook with a doubleheader. First pitch from Joe Nathan Field is set for noon.
