LOWELL, Mass. – The Hartford baseball team swept its doubleheader with UMass Lowell on the road, taking the opener, 3-0, followed by a 7-5 victory in the nightcap on Saturday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.
 
With the sweep, the Hawks improved to 18-20 on the season and in the America East, while the River Hawks fell to 19-28 on the campaign and 18-20 in the America East. 
 
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 3, UMASS LOWELL 0
The Hawks struck first after graduate student Zachary Ardito's RBI groundout plated Drew DeMartino from third to give Hartford a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Hartford added to its lead the following inning after sophomore Tremayne Cobb Jr. 's single to left scored Devon Edwards for a 2-0 advantage.

The Hawks made it a 3-0 game behind junior Donnie Cohoon's solo homer in the fifth inning. The lead proved to be too much for UMass Lowell, as Hartford held on for the 3-0 victory.

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 7, UMASS LOWELL 5
Hartford struck first behind sophomore's Derek Tenney's RBI single to left in the first inning. With the bases loaded later in the inning, graduate student Zachary Ardito lined a two-run single to the outfield to push the Hawks' lead to 3-0. With the bases loaded again in the third, Ardito delivered another RBI single to extend Hartford's lead to 4-0. 

Trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, UMass Lowell posted four runs in the frame to cut Hartford's lead to 6-4. However, the Hawks added a run in the seventh and eventually held on for the 7-5 victory. 

NEWS AND NOTES

• Junior pitcher Tim Blaisdell (4-3) got the start and earned the win in game one, tossing a complete-game shutout 
• Blaisdell allowed three hits and struck out five in the outing
• Cohoon and Cobb Jr. led the offense in the opener with two hits and an RBI apiece
• Ardito added an RBI in the win
• Graduate pitcher Jason Johndrow (0-1) got the start and took the no-decision after tossing three scoreless innings
• Senior Jack Rose (1-0) picked up the win after tossing 1.2 innings of relief
• Ardito led the offense in the nightcap with three hits and three RBI
• Robert Carmody, Kyle Hawes and Tenney contributed an RBI apiece
