Rocheleau Becomes New Program Leader in Home Runs as Hawks Split a Doubleheader with Binghamton

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –Senior Danielle Rocheleau became the program's all-time leader in career home runs as the Hartford softball team split a doubleheader with Binghamton this afternoon.

With the split, the Hawks move to 6-12 on the season and 4-12 in the America East, while the Bearcats improved to 10-14 on the campaign and 5-11 the America East.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 4, BINGHAMTON 3
Binghamton would strike early, taking a 3-0 advantage after the first two innings. The Hawks would respond in the bottom of the third as Rocheleau ripped an RBI single to right center, plating Chandler Mitchell and cutting the deficit to 2-1. It wouldn't take long for the Hawks to add more runs on the board, scoring three in the bottom half of the fourth. Zoe Truxon and Lily Sencer would reach second and third base as Mitchell hit a double to left center, scoring Truxon and Sencer to tie the game at 3-3. Two batter's later, Mitchell would show some heads-up base running, stealing third before scoring after a throwing error by the Binghamton catcher, giving Hartford a 4-3 lead. Julianna Kocenski would shut things down inside the circle, retiring 12 straight Bearcats to keep Binghamton from leveling the score. The visitors wouldn't go down without a fight, getting a runner on third base in the top half of the seventh, but Kocenski would strike out the final batter, giving the Hawks the 4-3 victory.

GAME TWO: BINGHAMTON 4, HARTFORD 1
Game two began as a pitcher's duel, with each team only recording one hit in the opening three innings. Sophomore Caylee English was on fire inside the circle, tallying four strikeouts in the first three frames. Binghamton would open the scoring in the fourth, taking a 2-0 lead after back-to-back home runs before adding a third in the fifth to extend their lead to 3-0. Rocheleau would step up and make history in the bottom half of the six, launching a bomb to left center, recording her 20th career home run and become the program's all-time leader in career home runs. The Bearcats would spoil the achievement, adding one more run in the seventh to take game two, 4-1.
