Hawks Combine for 3.46 Departmental GPA

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Hartford Department of Athletics saw its student-athletes enjoy an exceptional academic semester this past spring. The Hawks endured several challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic to earn a 3.46 departmental grade-point average for the 2021 spring semester, marking the 30th consecutive semester that Hartford's student-athletes have finished with at least a 3.0 departmental GPA.

Hartford saw 82 percent of its 318 student-athletes earn a GPA of 3.0 or better, as 263 individuals reached that mark. In addition, 59 percent (187 student-athletes) of Hawks student-athletes achieved at least a 3.5 GPA, while 56 individuals posted a perfect 4.0 GPA this past spring.

In addition, Hartford's teams also enjoyed academic success this past semester, as all 17 teams posted at least a 3.0 GPA for the third consecutive semester.

Setting the pace for the Hawks was the volleyball team, which combined for a 3.79 GPA. Twelve of the team's 15 members combined for a GPA of at least 3.5, including seven student-athletes that posted a perfect 4.0 mark.

The softball team posted the second-highest GPA in the department (3.76) after seeing 19 of its 21-member squad earn a GPA of 3.5, with six earning a perfect 4.0 GPA. Softball was followed by women's soccer (3.73), women's cross country (3.67) and women's golf (3.64).

Men's soccer and men's cross country led Hartford's men's teams with a 3.53 GPA, followed by men's basketball (3.37), men's indoor and outdoor track and field (3.35) and baseball (3.26)

The Hawks have enjoyed unprecedented success in the classroom for quite some time. Despite the America East Walter Harrison Academic Cup not being awarded last year, they have taken home the prestigious Academic Cup seven times since the inception of the award, including each year from 2012-15.
