Hartford Lands 240 on America East Academic Honor Roll

BOSTON — A whopping 81 percent of Hartford student-athletes who competed this past year received America East Academic Honor Roll distinction, the organization announced on Thursday. 
 
Student-athletes who were members of the baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross-country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field and softball teams for the Hawks who had a GPA of 3.0 or better were named to the America East Academic Honor Roll. In total, 240 of Hartford's 298 participants posted a GPA of 3.0 or better during the academic calendar to earn the recognition.

Most impressively, more than 59 percent of those recognized (176 student-athletes) earned Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for achieving at least a 3.5 GPA.
 
The softball team knocked it out of the park this past year with 100-percent of its roster earning Academic Honor Roll distinction. The Hawks landed 21 of its 23 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, as all but two members (91%) posted at least a 3.5 GPA, including six (Emma Armstrong, Ally Beck, Haley Cassidy, Emma Curry, Christy Mack and Mara Sczecienski) that earned perfect 4.0s.
 
In addition to softball, women's cross country landed 100 percent of its student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll. Among the 13 members on the roster, 11 (85%) received Commissioner's Honor Roll Status, with Hannah Perkins and Chloe Smith earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 
The women's soccer team had the second highest percentage of Academic Honor Roll members among its Hartford peers, with 96 percent of its 23 members (22 student-athletes) receiving the distinction. Men's soccer saw 85 percent of its 27 members (23 student-athletes) reaching the 3.0 GPA threshold.
 
The women's lacrosse team also had a successful semester in the classroom, with 27 Academic Honor Roll members (82% of the roster), including 21 who collected Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. Men's lacrosse, led Hartford's teams with 34 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll, 27 of whom earned at least a 3.5 GPA.

The men's basketball team saw 11 of its 16 members (69%) earn Academic Honor Roll distinction, with nine earning Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. Women's basketball saw 10 of its 15 student-athletes (67%) land on the Academic Honor Roll list.

Women's indoor and outdoor track and field, as well as men's indoor and outdoor track and field had 25 members apiece named to the America East Academic Honor Roll. The women's team saw 89 percent of its roster earn the distinction, while the men's squad had 81 percent of its roster earn the honor. In addition, men's track and field had 16 members earn Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition, while women's track and field saw 18 student-athletes receive the honor.
 
The volleyball team had 15 of its 16 (93%) student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 12 also receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction. Baseball had 28 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 17 named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 
 
In addition to the 15 sports that are sponsored by the America East, Hartford's men's and women's golf teams, which compete in the Big Sky Conference and the MAAC, respectively, also put up big numbers in the classroom this past spring. Women's golf posted the fourth-highest team GPA in the department (3.71) behind perfect 4.0s from Teagan Devoe and Brooke MacKinnon. Men's golf landed a program-best nine members on the Big Sky All-Academic Team, combining for a 3.16 team GPA.
 
As a department, Hartford enjoyed an outstanding semester in the classroom with its 17 NCAA Division I programs combining to post a 3.46 departmental GPA, marking 30 consecutive semesters with at least a 3.0 GPA or higher. The volleyball squad led all programs with a 3.79 team GPA.
 
A total 2,657 America East student-athletes earned Academic Honor Roll in 2020-21, 78 percent of the total student-athletes (3,416). Of that group, 53 percent of student-athletes and 1,825 in total earned Commissioner's Honor Roll status for registering a GPA of 3.5 or better.
