KINGSTON, RI. – The Hartford volleyball team dropped its two matches on the final day of the URI Invitational on Saturday afternoon, falling in the opening match against URI 3-1, before coming up short in three sets against Rider. Freshman
Camryn Luginbuhl led the way for the Hawks on the day with a total of 29 kills and 18 digs.
URI 3, HARTFORD 1 (25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 25-11)
SET ONE: The two sides played to a 7-7 tie before URI went on 15-5 run to take a commanding 22-12 lead. The deficit proved to be too much as the Hawks eventually fell in the set 25-15.
SET TWO: The Rams jumped out to an early 10-5 lead to force a timeout from the Hawks. Out of the timeout, URI pushed ahead 17-10 and never relinquished the lead to hold on for the 25-18 set win.
SET THREE: After falling behind 9-5, Hartford went on a 4-0 run to knot the score at 9-9. The two sides traded points to a 19-19 tie before a kill from
Camryn Luginbuhl put the Hawks ahead 20-19 to force a URI timeout. Out of the timeout, the Hawks closed the set with a 5-2 run to secure the 25-21 set win.
SET FOUR: The Rams opened the set to secure a 7-0 lead that it would never relinquish en route to a 25-11 set win, securing the match.
NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Luginbuhl led the Hawks with a game-high 20 kills and added 13 digs for a double-double …
Morgan Galligan tallied a team-high 34 assists … Brynne Wright and Gabrielle Shilling led URI with 12 kills apiece.
RIDER 3, HARTFORD 0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-19)
SET ONE: The Hawks held an early 4-2 lead in the set before the Broncs went on a 14-6 run to take a 16-10 lead, forcing a Hartford timeout. Out of the timeout, Rider pushed its lead to 18-11, eventually holding on for the 25-14 set win.
SET TWO: The two sides played to a 4-4 tie before Rider went on a 21-6 run to take the set 25-10 over Hartford.
SET THREE: The two sides played to a 3-3 tie in the set before Rider went on a 12-4 run to take a commanding 15-7 lead it would never relinquish. The Hawks cut it as close as 18-12, before eventually dropping the set and match.
NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Luginbuhl led the Hawks with nine kills and five digs … Galligan led Hartford with 13 assists… Tori Schrader led the Broncs with a game-high.

The Hawks will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 16, when they return to the Hartford Volleyball Gym for the home-opener against CCSU to begin the Hartford Hawks Invitational. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
