Volleyball Closes Non-Conference Slate with Tuesday Match vs. Bryant

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -  The Hartford volleyball team continues its 2021 campaign on Tuesday, as it plays host to Bryant in the final non-conference tune-up before America East play begins on Sunday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside the Hartford Volleyball Gym.

HARTFORD QUICK HITS
  • Hartford closes its non-conference slate with a home contest against Bryant on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

  • Lucero was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the Hawks with 55 digs in three matches
  • Luginbuhl led Hartford with 31 kills, while Lindsay narrowly trailed with 28 of her own
 
 
SCOUTING BRYANT
  • The Bulldogs enter the match with a 6-8 record, going 1-5 in their last six contests
  • Bryant picked up a win in its last outing, defeating NJIT in straight sets at home this past Saturday
  • The Bulldogs return 13 players from last year's team that went 6-5 in an abbreviated season
  • Among the returners are juniors Alysa Wright and Emma McGovern, who earned NEC All-Second Team and All-First Team honors last season, respectively
  • McGovern leads the team in points (140.5), points per set (2.90), kills (128) and kills per set (2.61)
  • Junior Riley James leads the team with 113 digs and is tied for second on the team, alongside Caroline Kennedy, with 114 kills
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday's meeting between Hartford and Bryant will mark the 23rd match between the two programs
  • The Hawks are 9-13 all-time against the Bulldogs, but the series is tied 9-9 in 18 Division I meetings
  • Hartford is 7-4 against Bryant in their last 11 contests, including a six-game win streak between 2011-2014
  • The last time the two sides met, the Hawks downed the Bulldogs on the road, 3-0, on Sept. 24, 2019
  • Abby Nash ('21) led the way with 12 kills, while Jenna Bridges ('19) added 11 kills and four blocks
 
KILLA CAM LUGINBUHL
  • Luginbuhl was named the America East Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week on Sept. 14 after averaging 5.40 points, 5.10 kills and 2.30 digs per set to lead the Hawks at the URI Invitational
  • She totaled 54 points, 51 kills and 23 digs en route to being named to the URI Invitational All-Tournament Team
  • Luginbuhl's best performance came in Friday's sweep of Merrimack that saw her deliver 22 kills with a .543 attack-percentage and nine digs
  • A native of Tolland, Conn., Luginbuhl has accrued four weekly awards this season, as she was named the Rookie of the Week on Sept. 7, after she was tabbed the league's Player and Rookie of the Week on Aug. 31
  • Through the first four weeks of the season, Luginbuhl leads the America East in points (178), points per set (4.34), kills (163) and kills per set (3.98)
  • She is the first Hawk player to earn Rookie of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks to open the season
  • Luginbuhl is also the second Hawk to earn the honors in three-straight weeks, joining current junior Maddie Lindsay, who received the award six-straight times in 2019
GALLIGAN'S ISLAND
  • Sophomore setter Morgan Galligan has exploded onto the scene in 2021, leading the Hawks with 329 assists and 8.02 assists per set
  • Her assist numbers slot her in third in the America East in both categories
  • Galligan has registered 20 or more assists in nine matches this season, most recently posting 37 helpers in a loss against Dartmouth this past Saturday
  • She registered a career-high 51 assists in a thrilling five-set victory over Quinnipiac to give Hartford its first win of the season on Sept. 3
LINDSAY STAYS BUSY
  • A two-time member of the America East All-Conference Second Team, Lindsay returns as Hartford's top outside hitter
  • As a sophomore, she ranked second in the conference in kills per set (3.81) and third in points per set (4.13)
  • She made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2019, becoming the first Hartford player since 2001 to be named the America East Rookie of the Year, while also while also earning All-Rookie Team honors
  • This past weekend at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, Lindsay registered 28 kills, including a season-best 16 kills against Dartmouth this past Saturday
