Carmen Villalobos recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while sophomore
Paula Maurina dropped a team-high17 points as the Hartford women's basketball team fell in heartbreaking fashion, 69-66, to New Hampshire. The Wildcats scored a buzzer-beating three to win the game. The Hawks fall to 1-14 overall and 1-3 in conference play while the Wildcats improve to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in the America East.
NEW HAMPSHIRE 69, HARTFORD 66
The game started out with both teams trading baskets. The Hawks would utilize a 5-0 run, capped off by a
Lya Farcy jumper, to take a 9-4 lead at the 7:23 mark. The Wildcats would respond with a 5-0 run of their own, tying the game before an
Abby Streeter three ended New Hampshire's momentum and regained the lead for Hartford. The Wildcats fought back, taking a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. The Hawks started the second quarter strong, pulling back within one, 18-17 with 7:23 remaining. Both teams continued to trade baskets before a
Paula Maurina jumper at the 1:12 mark gave the Hawks a 29-27 lead. However, New Hampshire ended the half on a 4-0 run, taking a 31-29 advantage into the halftime break. Villalobos finished with a first half double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The third quarter featured both teams battling back-and-forth, trading baskets. A Streeter three with 3:05 left in the quarter gave the Hawks a 42-38 advantage. The two teams continued to trade baskets as the Hawks entered the final quarter up, 46-45. New Hampshire began to pull away in the fourth, taking a 61-53 lead at the 3:03 mark. Hartford continued to fight back, pulling within two after Maurina made three straight free throws, cutting UNH's lead to 66-64. The Hawks would tie the game with five seconds left after a Maurina layup, however the Wildcats would win the game with a buzzer-beating three, 69-66.
