WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Sophomore
Paula Maurina scored a team-high 14 points as the Hartford women's basketball team dropped a 71-44 decision to Vermont this afternoon. The Hawks fall to 1-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play while the Catamounts, who completed the regular season sweep over Hartford, improve to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in the America East.
VERMONT 71, HARTFORD 44
Vermont controlled the first quarter, jumping out to 10-0 lead to start the game. The Catamounts continued that momentum, leading 23-5 after the first.
Marisa Lee had a solid start for the Hawks, scoring the team's first four points in the quarter. However, Vermont started the second quarter hot as well, taking a 43-19 lead at the halftime break.
Maurina and the Hawks came out swinging in the third quarter, going on a 5-0 run to cut Vermont's lead to 43-24. Maurina continued her strong quarter, scoring 14 of the Hawks 17 points in the third as the Catamounts entered the break, up 56-36. The deficit proved too much for the Hawks as Vermont took home a 71-44 victory.
