WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —Sophomore
Paula Maurina scored a team-high 11 points as the Hartford women's basketball team fell, 65-44, to Maine on Wednesday evening. The Hawks dip to 0-13 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Black Bears improve to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the America East.

Maine would take an early 5-1 lead to begin the game, but the Hawks would battle back and cut the deficit to one after a Villalobos turnaround jumper midway through the first. The Black Bears would open the gap up to eight, utilizing a 7-0 run to take a 17-9 lead with 3:12 remaining, before entering the first break up, 28-14. Hartford would gain momentum in the second quarter, using a 7-0 run capped off by a
Paula Maurina layup, to cut the deficit to 33-21 at the 5:06 mark. The rest of the second quarter was a defensive slugfest as Maine entered the halftime break up, 35-23.
The Hawks would continue to fight back in the third quarter, pulling within single digits after a
Jada Lucas jumper cut Maine's advantage to 36-27 at the 6:05 mark. The Black Bears would extend its lead to as much as 20 as the Hawks trailed, 52-32, entering the fourth quarter. The deficit proved too much as Maine secured a 65-44 decision.
