WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford women's soccer team took down Chicago State Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-1. The Hawks extend their unbeaten streak to seven games and improve to 8-1-1 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 3-10-1 on the year.
HARTFORD 3, CHICAGO STATE 1
The Hawks wasted no time getting the offense started as senior forward
Makaela Montgomery-Williams opened up the scoring in the tenth minute of the game. Junior forward
Imani Jenkins placed a perfect pass up to Montgomery-Williams who rushed up the field and sliced a shot into the net for the first goal of the game. In the 34th minute, freshman forward
Cameryn Wilkinson peppered the Chicago State goaltender with back-to-back point-blank shots, nearly doubling the Hartford advantage. The Hawks would enter the halftime break leading the Cougars by a score of 1-0.
Coming out into the second half, Hartford was in search for a sense of breathing room for sophomore goalkeeper
Abigail McCarthy. Jenkins would answer the call in the 55th minute blasting a shot into the back of the net off a pass from senior midfielder
Victoria Jedrychowski, extending the Hartford lead to 2-0. The Cougars were able to respond shortly after scoring a goal of their own off the foot of Delaney Keeney just 90 seconds later. Senior midfielder
Ishani Sharma would tack one more goal onto the flurry of scoring in the 59th minute, converting on a rebound after a shot attempt from senior defender
Doireann Fahey. Despite a valiant effort from Chicago State to mount a comeback in the final minutes, Hartford would walk away victorious by a score of, 3-1.
