Sharma Scores Twice in 3-0 Victory Over AIC on Senior Day

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford women's soccer team walked away victorious by a score of 3-0 over AIC Thursday night. Senior midfielder Ishani Sharma netted a pair of goals for the first time in her career to propel the Hawks towards the win. Hartford ends its 2022 slate finishing with a 10-3-1 overall record, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-8-3.

HARTFORD 3, AIC 0
Hartford wasted little time getting the offense started as sophomore forward Juliana Chiarella converted on a loose ball in front of the net off a pass from junior forward Imani Jenkins. Giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of the game. Less than four minutes later, junior defender May Cervone forced an AIC turnover near midfield and lifted a pass into the box feeding a streaking Sharma with a downfield pass. After breaking away from AIC defenders and drawing the Yellow Jackets' goalkeeper out of position, Sharma doubled the Hawks advantage to 2-0 with a low shot to the near post in the 12th minute.

With Hartford taking the 2-0 edge into the break, Sharma added one more insurance goal in the second half to provide a comfortable three-goal cushion. Her second goal of the game came off a rebound after a shot was taken by senior classmate Makaela Montgomery-Williams in the 61st minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Abigail McCarthy combined with the Hawks defense was able to hold off the offensive force of AIC, posting their fifth clean sheet of the season in a 3-0 victory.
