Cohoon Hits Three-Run Homer as Baseball Falls, 7-5, to Quinnipiac

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Donnie Cohoon launched a three-run home run while Martin Chavarria finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate as the Hartford baseball team fell, 7-5, at home to Quinnipiac this afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-8 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 4-8 on the campaign.

QUINNIPIAC 7, HARTFORD 5
The game started out as a pitcher's duel, with neither team generating offense. Robert Chaney, James Judenis, and Will Nowak were dominating on the mound, tallying one strikeout each in the first three innings. Martin Chavarria would look to get the Hawks on the board in the bottom half of the third, hitting a single down the right field line before stealing second. Donnie Cohoon would draw a walk in the next at-bat, but Chavarria and Cohoon would be left on base to end the inning.

Quinnipiac broke the deadlock in the fifth, taking a 1-0 lead. Hartford would immediately respond. Noah Rivera opened in the inning with a walk and Chavarria ripped another single to put two runners on base. Cohoon would step up in the next at-bat, launching a home run to right center, giving the Hawks a 3-1 lead. Tremayne Cobb Jr. looked to keep the Hawks momentum rolling, drawing a walk before reaching third base, but the Bobcats kept Hartford from adding onto its lead. However, Quinnipiac would regain a 4-3 lead in the top half of the seventh. The Hawks would waste little time to get the equalizing run, as Cobb Jr. singled through the left side, plating Chavarria to tie the score at 4-4.

Quinnipiac would respond with three runs of their own in the top half of the eighth. Hartford would try and rally late in the ninth inning. Chavarria continued his great day at the plate, drawing a walk before advancing to second on a passed ball. Derek Tenney would single to left center, to put runners on the corners. Cobb Jr. would get his second RBI of the game, hitting a sacrifice fly to right, plating Chavarria. However, the deficit ultimately proved too much as Quinnipiac escaped with a 7-5 win.
