Track and Field Competes at the UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. –  The Hartford men's and women's track and field teams continued its 2022 outdoor campaign today at the UMass Lowell Invitational. The Hawks had outstanding performances on and off the track this afternoon, walking away with 15 top-three finishers, including four gold medal performances. Junior Anthony Clavette and freshman Conor Convery each set new school-records in their respective events.

HARTFORD MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The men finished third, tallying 54 points, and finishing 10 points above America East foe Vermont 
  • Clavette took home the gold in the high jump after tying his own school-record mark with a height of 2.01m
  • Convery shattered the hammer throw record after finishing fifth in the event with a mark of 43.46m
  • Freshman Joseph Stephenson threw for a distance of 43.23m in the hammer, marking the second-best distance in Hartford track and field history
  • Freshman Kaden Leonard led the way for the Hawks, third in the 100m with a time of 11.40 seconds and fourth in the 200m with a time of 23.31
  • Kaylan Depas finished as the runner-up in the 200m dash, crossing the line in a time of 23.02
  • Graduate student Nicholas O'Brien and freshman Brandon Edmund rounded out the top-three finishers on the men's side
  • O'Brien ran a new personal-best time of 8:39.39 in the 3000m
  • Edmund finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 51.57
 
HARTFORD WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women finished third, tallying 92 points, besting New England opponents Harvard and Boston University
  • Freshman Marlina Voker led the women in scoring, walking away with two gold medals
  • Voker finished first in both the 100m and 200m dash, running times of 12.70 and 26.20, respectively
  • Sophomore Abby O'Connor, along with juniors Hannah D'Orso and Hailey Marcello swept the podium in the 3000m
  • O'Connor finished first in 10:21.35 while D'Orso and Marcello followed close behind at 10:32.26 and 10:41.51, respectively
  • Senior Nia Mills, junior Caroline Hadley and sophomores Robyn Krafft and Sydney Garrison each finished as the runners-up in their respective events 
  • Mills ran 12.76 in the 100m dash while Garrison cleared a height of 1.57m in the high jump
  • Hadley and Krafft each threw for distances of 39.35m and 40.26m in the hammer and discus, respectively
  • Sophomore Molly McGrail rounded out the women's top-three finishers in the 400m dash, running a time of 1:02.41

The Hawks head back to Massachusetts on Sunday, April 3 for the UMass Invitational. The Hawks are set to compete against Assumption, Holy Cross and Merrimack at the UMass Track & Field Complex.
