WESTERN KENTUCKY 11, HARTFORD 2
Western Kentucky struck first, taking an early 1-0 lead after the opening inning. Hartford would look to respond in the top of the second, putting runners on first and second, but the Hilltoppers prevented the Hawks from getting on the board. The Hilltoppers would add onto its advantage, tacking on two runs in the top half of the fourth. Burnett would pull one back for the Hawks, launching his first home run of the season over the right center fence, bringing the score to 4-1.
The Hilltoppers however extended the gap to 10-1 until Koziol hit the Hawks second home run of the game in the top of the eighth. The deficit proved too much however, as Western Kentucky took game one of the series, 11-2.
